Tech Session Feb 17, 10am, on SU Carb Rebuilding
at Rick Hertzberg’s house (404) 291-0087
1932 Grist Stone Ct NE, Atlanta (near Emory U)
We will take apart at least one of my SU HS4 carbs. Bruce Madden and Glenn Stephens are coming so there will be some mechanical expertise here – yay!
If you want to bring your carbs, here are some ideas from club members:
1) BEFORE you remove the carbs from the car,
Check the butterfly shaft for wear that would require new bushes. Crank the car, and with the engine idling, spray a little starting ether at the base of the shaft. If the idle speed increases you probably have a worn shaft or bush. Another idea was the same test, using a light oil instead, which would seal the gap, changing the idle. Ether seems easier because the speed change would be more obvious. If you need re-bushing of the butterfly shaft, that probably should be done at a good machine shop.
2) Be sure you have the kits and any other parts you might need.
3) Bring cleaned up carburetors.
I will have a few rinsing bowls but best if yours is already clean.
If we run out of rebuilding to do, I will reinstall mine and we can learn about mixture setting, balancing via UniSyn and other adjustments.
RSVP by Thursday evening, Feb 15th.
For this Feb. 17 tech session, please email me if you plan on attending. If you have any carb rebuild info to share, email that too.
